2016 NTC: Glimpse the Future

Education and skill building. That’s what the NAP Training Conference (NTC) is all about — two and a half days of workshops and plenary sessions for parliamentarians at all levels. That’s why you definitely don’t want to miss the 2016 NTC, August 26-28, in the Denver metro area.

This year’s program will be based on the body of knowledge published by NAP in April. It provides a roadmap for your development as a parliamentarian, regardless of whether you are new to parliamentary procedure or an established professional.

We’re especially excited about the special plenary session the newly created Commission on Credentialing will facilitate to kick off the conference on Friday, August 26. Find out what the future of credentialing for parliamentarians is, how it will fit with the body of knowledge, how the credentialing process will change, and what the retention requirements will be. It’s intended for all parliamentarians — those who are currently credentialed and those thinking about it. It will be the perfect opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback to the commission.

This is your future — be informed, sharpen your skills, expand your knowledge. Actively participate and let your voice be heard. You’ll be glad you did.

Remember to plan extra days prior to or after and enjoy all the wonders of Colorado and the Denver area.

Updated Sample Bylaws & Checklists Now Available

The Bylaws Committee has updated the sample unit and association bylaws and bylaws checklists for the new association, unit, and youth group kits. The updated documents don’t contain any major changes, but do include several references to the NAP bylaw changes made during the 2015 biennial convention. The updates also clarify and add to the endnotes in each set of suggested bylaws.

These documents are intended primarily for new associations, units, and youth groups but existing ones may also find them useful when considering amendments to their bylaws. Groups should pay particular attention to those provisions for which endnotes specify that no changes may be made except within narrowly defined limits.

The kits are available in the documents section of the NAP website. Questions concerning the suggested bylaws or bylaws checklists may be directed to Bylaws Committee Chairman Weldon Merritt at weldonLmerritt@gmail.com.

New Committee Structure Increases Communication

A new committee leadership structure has been implemented this year. Standing committees remain but each group of committees, or clusters, now has a coordinator. The clusters – which are education, communications, technology, and membership – allow committees to share expertise and strengths while working together to provide the best services to members. This new structure also allows better communication to develop between committees and all levels of NAP and its leadership.
