Metairie Unit – The Motion to Suspend the Rules: Removing Roadblocks to Consideration
July 1, 2024; 7:30 pm - 8:15 pm CDT
In order to do something that cannot be done without violating one or more regular rules, an assembly can adopt a motion to Suspend the Rules interfering with a proposed action, as long as that action is not in conflict with: the organization’s bylaws; local, state, or national law prescribing procedural rules applicable to the organization or assembly; or a fundamental principle of parliamentary law. This presentation will examine the rules for the motion to Suspend the Rules, including the seven categories of rules that cannot be suspended.
