Robert’s Rules As a Living Document
NAP is pleased to announce a special panel presentation at the 2026 NAP Conference: “Robert’s Rules As a Living Document,” presented Sunday morning in partnership with the Robert’s Rules Association.
This session brings together three distinguished voices from the Robert’s Rules Association and its Authorship Team:
Geoff Alan, PRP, Authors’ Agent for the Robert’s Rules Association, on the Association’s relationship to the Authorship Team and on artificial intelligence in parliamentary procedure.
Thomas (Burke) Balch, PRP, member of the Robert’s Rules Authorship Team, on the significant changes across the “Newly Revised” editions, seventh through eleventh, and how each has met the evolving needs of deliberative assemblies.
Daniel E. Seabold, PRP, member of the Robert’s Rules Authorship Team, on the “Principles of Revision” and the process by which the Authorship Team develops amendments for future editions.
A moderated question-and-answer period will follow.

Geoff Alan
Geoff is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian (PRP) providing expert guidance to organizations that value order, transparency, and fair deliberation.
He is the great-great-grandson of General Henry M. Robert, the author of Robert’s Rules of Order, and continues his family’s longstanding tradition of service in parliamentary law. Geoff serves on the Executive Committee of the Robert’s Rules Association and acts as the authors’ agent for Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised and Robert’s Rules of Order In Brief.
With experience advising nonprofit boards, associations, local government, and professional societies, Geoff combines expert knowledge of parliamentary procedure with a practical understanding of how real-world organizations operate. -
Thomas J. “Burke” Balch, PRP
Thomas (Burke) Balch, J.D., one of the authors of the current and immediate past editions of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised and Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised In Brief, serves multiple clients as a self-employed parliamentarian. A past president of the American College of Parliamentary Lawyers, he is a graduate of Williams College and the New York University School of Law.

Daniel Seabold, PRP
Daniel E. Seabold is a mathematics professor at Hofstra University specializing in logic and set theory. He is a graduate of McDaniel College and received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Seabold has served as a member of the Authorship Team for Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised since 2008.
