I Hate Your Bylaws — and You Do, Too! Potluck

Your bylaws are wordy, vague, and ambiguous. They say many things they should omit and omit things they should say. Often, they say things twice. Other times, they say things once but in the wrong place. Let’s talk about how to do better.

Organize bylaws properly: Say each rule once, and say it in the right place.
Write clearly: Omit needless words, shun vague or ambiguous terms and write for ordinary people.

Prepare for contingencies: Draft provisions providing appropriate flexibility for when the assembly is challenged by shifting conditions.
